Andreas Hartmann studied piano with me at Memorial University of Newfoundland in the 1992-93 academic year. During the three years prior I had heard him play on numerous occasions in the School of Music, and was very impressed with his ability and potential. His lessons with me confirmed my opinion of him as an exciting and promising pianist. He learned music quickly, was eager to learn and willing to question. He had marvelous technical facility, a lovely big sound and good stylistic instincts. I have heard a tape recording of a recital that he gave me in 1997, and was delights to hear that all of those qualities were still much in evidence, along with a mature musicianship and well developed musical intellect. Andreas is a very intelligent young man, and his academic work at Memorial University was always extremely good. He possesses the rare combination of musical and intellectual ability that are so essential to success as a teacher of advanced students. He has made good use of those abilities by pursuing his education in very strong programs at institutions of very high repute. Finally, he is a very personable young man, mature and reliable, with an easy sense of humor. Although I am not familiar with his teaching experience, I am confident that he has the skills and personal traits to be a very fine teacher and mentor. Sincerely, __________________________________ |
